C-Jay

Born in 1976, multi talented Dutch artist C-Jay took up an early interest in electronic and experimental music from the hands of artists like Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis and Tangerine Dream…

At the age of 11, C-Jay started taking his first muscial educations on the ins- and outs of both digital and musical instruments, with the enthousiastic love and support of his parents……

And now years later at the age of 30, C-Jay is as diverse as it can get in the dance music business:former recordstore owner (Sessions Recordstore), dj, producer, label owner (The Sessions Recordings) and promoter of his own underground dance nights, called “The Sessions”…

Guest dj’s who were invited by C-Jay to play with him on his events in the past years include: James Holden, Chris Fortier, Quivver, Chris Cowie, Jaydee, Anthony Pappa, Mo Shic, Andy Jarrod, Fred Numf, Jonathan Lisle and many more.

As an artist / producer C-Jay got his first worldwide release in the spring of 2004.

This tune (SwayWatch) got signed to the Moun10 imprint, (owned by Dutch house legend Jaydee) and got massive support from artists like The Flash Brothers, Chris Fortier and Fred Numf. After this first one the attention of the scene rapidly grew. Heads were turning into C-Jay's direction so to say.

His second release was made together with his friend Jaydee under their “Graylock” moniker and got released on First Impression Recordings, the label of ……Jaydee. This release got supported, played and charted by Armin Van Buuren, Ton TB, Paul Van Dyk, The Flash Brothers, Carl Cox, Chris Fortier and many more. The release also made it into the higher ranks of the world renowned Balance Record Pool charts.

Due to the fact that both releases were received so well by the international dance scene, C-Jay decided to start his own recordlabel “The Sessions Recordings.” The basic idea behind it was to have no boundaries in releasing his own material, not having to depend on other labels in this early stage of his career and trying to draw the attention of the big guys even more. The label soon became a fact, and the first vinyl release hit stores worldwide in november 2004. After 3 vinyl releases on his own label C-Jay had the result he wanted: the attention of both the scene as well as the people on dancefloors worldwide. The established labels were now interested in him as an artist, cause he made a name for himself and showed that his tunes were loved by many around the globe.

Later on, in November 2005, C-Jay’s first co-production with his friend Mick Wilson (UK) appeared on the well respected Dutch imprint Cyber Records. This masterpiece, called “Darkism” is a personal favourite of none less than Anthony Pappa and Hernan Cattaneo, who both have been dropping it a lot in their sets of summer / fall 2005. Hernan Cattaneo even closed his legendary Dance Valley Festival 2005 set with this floorfiller.... and Dutch national radio did a live broadcast of that set.

Till now (October 2006) C-Jay signed deals for releases with Climax Recordings (UK) Plastik Park (Germany), Cyber Records, Existence Recordings (Canada) Vapour Recordings (Australia) and a tune for 19Box Recordings (Japan).

Besides these regular productions he is also asked by world famous producer D-Nox, to make a remix for one of his artists on his label Plastik Park; this tune came out in the summer of 2006.

By making better and better music with every release, the support of the big names grows as well; artists who support everything he produces since early 2005 include Hernan Cattaneo, Anthony Pappa, Shiloh, Satoshi Tomiie, Parham, D-Nox, DJ 19, D-Nox, Kosmas Epsilon, Leron & Yves Eaux and Kasey Taylor: all big fans of C-Jay's soundscapes and dropping his tunes all over the world from Asia to the USA. Not bad if these people can be called your "fans".

The recordlabel C-Jay manages is now taking off as well; February 2006 C-Jay decided to revitalise the label again, and turn it into a digital imprint. Digital releases are the future, and C-Jay jumped on that wagon at the right time: salesfigures are growing, and talented young guys like Roger Martinez now found a home to release their music. Special remixes and exclusive versions of C-Jay's tunes can be found on the label as well. Starting in 2007, C-Jay wants to use the label to highlight and manage his own material exclusively.

Having shared dj booths with almost every big star of the progressive scene C-Jay is bound to become one himself. 2005 & 2006 brought C-Jay playing gigs in Poland, Romania, Holland, Germany, Greece, Belgium and the Ukraine, and the rest of the world is waiting for him. Watch out for this multi-talented hot shot from Holland….

Not doing it for the Hall Of Fame but just loving his job and the scene C-Jay is known for his motto: “Progressive is an attitude….”

C-Jay is a guy who wants to develop, develop in every way he can. The new generation... I know him as a serious player on the decks and as a fine producer. If one person knows how to explain the word Progressive to you than he is. Progressive is his thing, besides playing it he is a good producer as well.
